On defense, John Paul registered five tackles and recorded four sacks to lead the unit.

ā€œThe key to Sydney Academy’s win was the play of Detheridge,ā€ commented Wildcats Head Coach Lorne Burke after the victory.Ā  ā€œWith a young inexperienced offensive line, he continues to lead the team with his determination and hard work each week; opponents are quick to recognize that if they key on him they can limit our success, but he continues to lead us offensively each week. ā€œ

ā€œDefensively, tackle John Paul had a stellar game earning four sacks and five tackles, with his size and athletic ability most team have to double and triple team him but he continues to be a force in the middle for us.ā€

With this win, the Wildcats improve to 3-2 this season.Ā  As for the Royals, the team slides to 1-5 with the loss.

Overall, the Wildcats felt the Royals were formidable opponents.Ā  Moreover, the Wildcats have some areas of their game that needs improvement in the coming days.

ā€œWe were impressed with the fight John Hugh Gillis put up scoring in the last minute of the game to make for an exciting finish and playing under the lights in Antigonish was a thrill for our players to experience,ā€ added Burke.Ā  ā€œWe feel to have any more success this year we will have to get better blocking as we have good running backs and receivers but have been limited in our time to execute our plays.ā€

Sydney Academy Wildcats will be on the road as the team visits Central Kings Gators on Sunday October 20th, 2013 at 1:00pm.Ā  Dr John Hugh Gillis Royals will enjoy a bye this upcoming week.

Mike Ogilvie had an exceptional game for the Griffins as he tallied two rushing majors and was a standout on the Griffins defensive unit.

ā€œIt was a good game for us all around,ā€ expressed Griffins Head Coach Alec Hyndman after the victory.Ā  ā€œI think we could have played better but I am always happy to have a win.ā€

ā€œWe have a shot at the tier 1 playoffs this year and need to stay sharp for the next three weeks and win out for that to even be a chance.Ā  I know we can do it and the boys are hungry to get to that level.Ā  We have been doing much better as a balanced attack with 291 yards on the ground and threw 200 yards in the air.Ā  We need to keep building to that balance point.Ā  And as always our defense played awesome.Ā  With guys like Mackenzie Carr, Duncan Hill and Luke Oulton keeping the pressure on opposing offenses, I know that trend will continue.ā€

With this win, the Griffins improve to 3-1-1.Ā  As for the Titans, the team slides to 1-4 on the season.

Titans Coach Scott Pope gave his assessment of what went wrong for the team.

ā€œFrom our standpoint, we had too many fumbles that Horton took advantage of and we could not execute any of our plays properly,ā€ assessed Pope.Ā  ā€œSome assignments were missed which Horton took advantage of throughout the game.ā€

ā€œThe Horton team was well coached and they had great execution throughout the game.ā€

However, Pope said there were some standout performances in spite of the loss.

ā€œEric Main continued to be a force on both sides of the ball and is emerging as a leader on defense,ā€ added the Titans Coach.Ā  ā€œBrandon Bigelow had a strong game as well on the defensive side and played an overall strong game.ā€

ā€œOnce again Rodolfo Valdez had a strong game kicking for us. Anything we asked him to do, he did.

Horton Griffins will visit Northeast Kings Titans on Sunday October 20th, 2013.Ā  Game start is 2:00pm.Ā  As for the Northeast Kings Titans, the team will be on the road this week to face Prince Andrew Panthers on Friday October 18th, 2013. Kickoff is 5:00pm.

ā€œIn the second half, we had Chris Jamieson scoring a rushing touchdown and a great special teams touchdown by Dylan Struble. Our MVP for the game was Josh Gracie who is new to the defensive back position and had a great game.Ā  Special recognition goes out to to Kyle Gordon playing both sides of the ball and Dylan Struble.Ā  As a new team to the league, we have to learn to play a full 60 minutes.Ā  This week will have us at practice getting ready for our home game against Horton High on Sunday, October 20th.ā€

The Gators improve to 2-4 on the year while the Wolverines are still winless with a 0-5 record.

Prince Andrew Panthers

PRINCE ANDREW PANTHERS 59, LOCKVIEW DRAGONS 14:

ā€œWe feel like our team played a pretty well rounded game last night and we came out with an important win,ā€ commented Panthers Head Coach Joe Flemming of the teamā€™s performance in the win.Ā  ā€œIt was “TURKEY BOWL” after all, and the last three times we’ve played each other, the game came down to the wire.ā€

ā€œSo we knew they had an evenly matched team over there. They coach a hard-nosed game of football, so it was nice to break that trend and get some separation on the scoreboard.Ā  As in all games, we look for ways to improve the following week in order to continue to get stronger.Ā  We feel our defense played a solid game giving up only seven points against a strong run game from Lockview. Our offense put up 59 points once they found their stride and overcame a 7-0 deficit early in the game.Ā  We gave up seven points on a kick return so we’ll be working a little harder on our special teams coverage this week in practice. We also had two touchdowns called back due to a few mental errors resulting in inopportune flags, so we’ll be working to correct those issues as well.ā€

The Panthers improve to 5-1 on the season while the Dragons slip to 1-4.

ā€œDefensive Coordinator Bryce Fisher has done an exceptional job this year with this young but talented group of athletes and has turned this Defense into a real strength of our team. Dion Thomas Hodges was a defensive force tonight with nine tackles.Ā  On offense, speed and execution were the keys to our game plan tonight, we have so many good athletes, and rookie QB Colin Cluette continues to improve throwing for almost 300 yards and 3 touchdowns while running for another one. Calem Beaver, Marquis Diggs , Daniel Seule , and Dominic Ogden were all a force tonight.ā€

As for the Cavaliers, Head Coach Peter Crouse gave his assessment on the teamā€™s performance against the Eagles.

ā€œIt was a hard fought battle that was closer than the score would indicate in the cross-town rivalry,ā€ commented the Cavaliers Head Coach.Ā  ā€œGreat job by their coaching staff in putting in a plan to play us, but the reality of it all is we beat ourselves.ā€

ā€œOur mental mistakes allowed them to capitalize on the scoreboard and we have lots of work to do to be successful for the balance of the season and it gets much tougher after today with games against Citadel, Prince Andrew, and Charles P Allen on the horizon.Ā  It is time to refocus and get back to work.Ā  Our lone shining light last night was Joel ā€œHollywoodā€ Russell who was forced to fight tooth and nail to scratch out every yard he could on the ground.Ā  We will build from the few positives in an effort to get back in the win column.ā€

With this win, the Eagles are now 2-2-1 on the season.Ā  Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have a 4-1 record this year.
