NSSAFFL Week 8: Panthers resurrection, CFC#35 Cheetahs invincible, positioning for playoffs in full swing

In 2013, the Prince Andrew Panthers have experienced a reversal of fortunes.

At this time last year, the Panthers were 0-6-0.  After the team’s 19-10 victory over Cole Harbour High Cavaliers in Week 8 of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL), the Panthers have ended their season with a 7-1 record.

“This win versus Cole Harbour High capped off a 7-1 season for our guys,” commented Panthers Head Coach Joe Flemming after the win.  “We’re very proud of the effort and pride they have taken in their program.”

Flemming said the key to the Panthers successful 2013 campaign was the performance of the team’s defensive squad.

“Both sides of the ball have been very productive for us this season, but when your defense allows an average of only eight points per game,” assessed the Panthers Head Coach.  “They give you a chance to win everytime you step on the field.”

In their final game of the regular season, the Panthers offense turned in an impressive performance.

“We decided to use our run game versus Cole Harbour High and it proved successful thanks to some great offensive line work by Matt Bell and rushing by Nick Green and Jake Moore,” evaluated Flemming.  “All three had a great game and so did many others, but these three really stepped up to the plate versus a very fast Cole harbour defense.”

Moreover, the two other Panthers units contributed to the victory.

“On defense, it was a well-rounded effort by our guys only allowing Cole Harbour High to score three  points on offense,” said Flemming.  “The others came on special teams.”

“Terrell Clayton had huge game.”

The Panthers will enjoy a bye in this final week of the regular season.  Meanwhile, the Cole Harbour Cavaliers are currently 4-3-0 and will visit CFC#35 Charles P Allen Cheetahs on Friday November 1st, 2013 to their regular season finale.
