Learning from the best

CEGEP defensive end joins RSEQ team’s 2014 class.

Having the opportunity to work with a coach with tremendous experience and success was too good of an offer for a CEGEP defensive standout to pass up.

As a result, Chris Occil recently committed to the Concordia Stingers for the 2014 RSEQ season.

β€œI chose Concordia mainly because of Shawn Mayne the Defensive Line and Special Teams Coach,” explained Occil of his decision.Β  β€œHe has multiple Grey Cups, so he knows how to win and what it takes to get to the next level.”

β€œI have the potential to be one of the top ends in the CIS and I trust Shawn to get me there. The Stingers defense has some studs on their roster such as Mike Charland and Rashawn Perry and so it’s just a matter of time till we put it all together and do it right. Defense wins championships. Also, the new athletic director made me feel like they were ready to invest in the football program to get us where we need to be.”

The 6’4, 200 pound defensive end from Lasalle, Quebec comes to the Stingers after a stint with CEGEP Division 2 team, John Abbott Islanders. This past season, Occil registered over 20 tackles and recorded three sacks. Previous to CEGEP, the defensive standout suited up for his hometown midget team, Lasalle Warriors.Β  During his second year with the team, he was named captain, was selected as an All-Star and received the Coaches Award.
