OFC: Braves log first win in London

The London Beefeaters were handed a two-point safety in the first quarter but those were the only two points they would get as the Burlington Braves defence shut them down from that point on. Once Braves geared up the offence, there was no stopping them Friday night at the TD Waterhouse field in London were the team celebrated their first win of the season 38-2.

Kareem Blake had three touchdowns from close in, Jake Pearsall pulled in seven receptions from QB Lucas Spagnuolo for 161 yards and 2 TD’s Kicker Ryan Lambert was perfect on all five converts in addition to a field goal to complete the scoring. Mayvon Wassell added 148 yards in rushing including a 48 yard dash.

It was a very different game than the Braves previous outings in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC). Limiting turnovers and solid offensive drives translated into QB Lucas Spagnuolo completing 13 passes for 319 yards. Jason Diston pulled in three for 108 yards, Brody Essery added two for 44 more yards, and Alex Coutu caught a six-yard pass. The defence did an excellent job.

Cornerback Luke Pearsall had another strong game with two interceptions and middle line backer Bryan Cook had a strong performance as did the whole defensive unit.

β€œ The players took a step forward in their development last Friday night and played with a sense of urgency and emotion and it showed in the final score,” said head coach Neil Lumsden. ” We’ll need to continue that level of play to compete in this very competitive division.”

The Braves are looking forward to returning home to Nelson Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 5pm to face the Windsor AKO Fratmen, who are a strong entry in the OFC this season, undefeated in their first two outings. The Braves will host Burlington Minor Football Association (BMFA) day and all Burlington football fans are invited to join the festivities.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
