OFC coaches: “Who do you think are the most dangerous offensive and defensive players in the conference? And why?”

Brampton Bears Beaten by Windsor’s AKO Fratmen

With only 26 fatigued players – several of which had to play dual roles – truly ironman
football, the Bears scored 20 points to the Fratmen’s 47 at Alumni Field at the University of
Windsor this past Saturday September 25th.

Their starting quarterback, Brad Elliot had to start
as a line backer. Centre, John Ellis also played defensive tackle. Likewise, Justin Bain played
tight, defensive lineman and quarterback. As always, Patrick Ross, who was invited to Argo camp earlier this summer, once again played a solid game on both sides of the ball.
Several crucial mistakes, blown assignments and the young team`s inability to hold off their opponents cost the Bears several points and gave the edge to the Fratmen. Just before the half, a kick off fumble in the end zone led to AKO`s touchdown recovered by linebacker Matt Chick – the pivotal point of the game. Our 20 points were comprised of 200+ yards of total offence punctuated with big plays from Ricardo Romain who scored our first touchdown on a 59-yard counter-play says Coach Houlder – whose faith in his fledgling team is quite undaunted. Additionally, Gilbert Stewart scored touchdowns for the team on two huge running plays – 55yards and 30 yards respectively. Leon Budhram managed to add 2 points to the score even though he played his first game as a place kicker.
With two regular season games remaining, the Bears are still holding their own – all things considered. They will once again take on the Ottawa Sooners on Saturday, October 2nd at their home field, St. Marcellinus Secondary School, 730 Courtneypark Drive West, Mississauga. During their first game against Ottawa – their 2nd game of the season, the Bears held onto a 24-24 tie and forced the Sooners into a 27-24 overtime win. The Bears truly played their best game of the season against the OFC`s well-respected defending champions. Coaches McEvoy and Houlder who previously coached together at York University, will be on opposite sides of the field. Friday, October 8thwill find them at TD Waterhouse Stadium playing the London Beefeaters.

Fratmen Welcome Bears to League
On a chilly Saturday night in Windsor, the Fratmen played host to the Brampton Bears
for the final home game of the season. The Fratmen defense played solid throughout
the game and held the bears off the scoreboard for three quarters.
The offense was lead by running back Karlos Coleman who rushed for almost 200 yards. Touchdown passses were caught by Derrick Hurst, Kory Bremner. Rushing touchdowns by Alex Gouin (2), and Taylor Tessier. Steve Smith added a couple of field goals and extra points. The defense scored a touchdown on a kick return when Matt Chick stripped the ball carrier in the endzone and recovered the fumble for the score.
The Frat racked up a 47 – 20 victory. Brampton provided the defense with a large dose of off tackle running and reverses. They scored their three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on miss direction running plays. The Frat will now play their next two games away from home and hoping to secure a home playoff birth. Next week the Frat travel to Hamilton to take on the Hurricanes who lost this night to St. Leonard 18 -17. In other action, the Beefeaters of London beat the Ottawa Sooners 21 – 10.

TT – “Who do you think are the most dangerous offensive and defensive players in the
conference? And why?”

There are several dangerous players in the league this season, Coleman from Windsor and Djock from St. Leonard are the best RB’s I have seen on film to date. We have a player named Max Thompson that has quickness like I have never seen in the OFC. Once we get him going he will be a game changer. There are some dangerous receivers in this league, bias or not I like my crew. They are all great athletes we have no one or two favorite targets we can hit every WR for big plays and that makes it hard to defend us. Defensively Aram to no ones surprise is tops on the defensive points sheet. Nolan from Ottawa is picking off everything in site. These guys you have to game plan against in order to move the ball. Aaron Cook and Dragan Kunac have been getting it done all season for us. We added Jake Myers at the deadline who is a former all star in this conference which makes our DLine beastly.

Although we have had many great individual offensive performances I believe our league is still driven by dominating defence. Offences must utilize turnovers or great special teams to score on a regular basis. At running back each team has shown 1 if not 2 guys who can get the job done. Our team had difficulty dealing with Djock from St Leonard. His athleticism and size make him quite dominant. We have another big task this weekend trying to contain Coleman from Windsor. He has the rushing title all but locked up and can make tacklers look silly. We are looking forward to getting our all purpose back Troy Croonen back this week. His versatility allows us to get him the ball in many ways. It is impressive that he is in the top5 in rushing and receiving.
As a unit the Braves D-Line has caused a lot of damage disrupting offences. Nolan from Ottawa has given QBs fits all year. Although we had success against Ottawa a few weeks ago, we did not take many chances at him. We are pleased with the way our defence has played this year. Aram Eisho continues to make big plays and is the statistical machine. Senior DT Graeme Thompson has anchored a DL that has played well while being surrounded by 3 teenagers.
