Give the Brampton Bears a lot of credit for being a 1st year team that had to go on the road and put themselves in a great situation to win a game this past weekend. I will be honest I am not a fan of the double wing offense but the beautiful thing about football is that there are a lot different schemes that will allow a team to be successful.
It truly does force a team to adapt to different styles of offense rather than the conventional spread or two back system that most teams use nowadays. It forces the defense to honour their gaps and not get caught trying to read or get caught looking into the backfield which happened to us a few times and gave Brampton an opportunity to make plays. Give Brampton credit because they have the athletes who will make you pay for your mistakes. The most positive aspect from a Sooners perspective is that we are still 2-0 and still have not been effective in running our schemes yet. As a coaching staff and players we continue to work hard and strive to get better each practice and game. We have another tough opponent this week in Windsor. A very solid team, which is big and athletic plus when you add in a 9 hour bus trip this will be a big test for us this weekend.

Saturdayβs game confirmed that we, in Brampton have the makings for a good team. I was pleased with the effort overall. Still need to work on becoming better every week. We need to learn to win. Ottawa had the edge in terms of experience. They were better on Specials, which ultimately decided the outcome of the game in OT. It was a pleasure competing with the OFC champs. They are a class act.
Game notes β In a battle between the newcomer Brampton Bears and the OFC Champs,
the Ottawa Sooners, it took 6 quarters to decide who would come out on top. From the
beautiful turf all the way up to the camera lined tower above the stands, the Sooners were the perfect hosts, welcoming the Bears and their fans to Keith Harris Stadium. Improving upon their first outing, the Bears were better able to answer touch downs when necessary and with the help of Brad Elliotβs passes, Yunell Claytonβs catches and their non conventional
double-wing offense, the Bears were leading the Sooners at half time 23 to 16. The Sooners used their experience to finally tie up the score half way through the 4th quarter. Additionally, a solid defence was played by Kurt Thompson and Neil Riley-Grant. The Sooners played an awesome game and were able to break the tie after a very stressful overtime bringing the final score to 27 – 24.

It sure was hot out there….we lost 3 starters to cramps. London was disciplined and well coached like usual. They have some tough kids and look like a formidable opponent in 2010. Ottawa looks outstanding on film. Again another well coached team that will not beat
themselves. We must come out of the gate with more self control and minimize our penalties. That starts with me and it will get corrected. All in all I am happy to get back from London with a victory. Our veterans played well and we had a few rookies step up and take control. It looks like another great year in the OFC.

Next week versus St Leonard we expect a tough battle.
They always play with intensity and are well lead by their coaches and seniors.
Games notes from Jim Stevenson β Somewhere between JPII on Friday night and TD Waterhouse on Sunday afternoon the hopes and dreams of the Beefs for a quick start to the 2010 season took a left turn and got out of town. The first quarter and a bit looked like an old fashioned Beefs/Frat defensive battle. Following lengthy delay due to a gruesome injury to Frat running back James Fox (think Joe Theissman’s leg and picture an ankle the same way), however, the Beefs went flat while the Frat took inspiration from their fallen teammate and went on a scoring spree of 30 straight points. The Beefs only score came in the waning minutes of the final quarter. The Beefs gave up 3 long touchdown passes by Frat QB Taylor Tessier to WR Derrick Hurst and a short run of 8 yards for a touchdown by Dan Jacobs. All-Star kicker Steve Smith added a field goal and 3 converts to complete the Frat scoring.
Brendan Allen completed a 46-yard pass and run play from back up quarterback James Morrissey for the London score. Offensively the Frat put up 323 total yards to the Beefs 138. Prior to the game, Cpl. Jason Riddolls, a Beefeater alumnus, did the coin toss and there was a minute’s silence in memory of long-time Beefeater volunteer, Ernie Hordyski. The Beefs get back into action next Saturday at TD Waterhouse Stadium against the always-tough St. Leonard Cougars. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

The heat was a big factor in the game no second half points was good evidence of that. Regardless we kept hydrated and played well. Hamilton was all over us early, scoring fast and looking sharp. We answered in a big way scoring 28 unanswered points. Our offense was firing and our D woke up.
I was happy to get the win, 2-0 is great. What I am most pleased with is that we have won
2 road games. Our home stand starts next weekend part 2 of the home and home series. I
expect a few different looks and progressions from the Hurricanes, I know that group will
fight hard not to fall to 0-2. Our job is simple now, we must protect our house.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
