OFC: Junior Varsity Stampeders run away with championship

The Ontario Football Conference (OFC) junior varsity final took place in Hamilton Saturday afternoon. The North champion Huronia Stallions took on the South champion Burlington Stampeders. This was the third game between these two teams this year, Burlington coming out on top in the first two.

The game began as a see-saw affair with both teams offenses producing early touchdowns. The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter, twice, and the score was 14 to 14. That score held up until late in the 2nd quarter. The Stallions stopped the Stampeders on 4th down deep in their own territory. The Stallion offense could not respond and punted the ball away. On the next play Jonathan Howard took the ball over 70 yards for the touchdown, his first of 3 touchdown runs over 55 yards. The Stampeders continued to press before half and scored one more TD to make the halftime score 35 to 14.

The third quarter saw the game slip away from the Stallions. An early touchdown pass from Troy Downton to Justin Saddlemyre seem to put the final nail in the coffin. The defense began to take advantage of the Stallions forced pass attack with defenders Addison Olah and Mason Stoddard picking off passes on the next two drives. Final score was 70 to 21 for the Stampeders.

The Stampeders jv team proved their dominance and proved to CFC that they have the best ‘line play’ in Ontario JV summer ball.

Defensive player of the game: Stallions Brandon Johnston

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
