OFC: Varsity Toronto Jr. Argonauts Ready for 2012 Season

Preparations for the 2012 season are almost complete for the Varsity Toronto Jr. Argonauts. As members of the Canadian Junior Football League, the Jr. Argos look to have their best season yet.

With returning veteran players such as Linebackers Thomas Sebastiano and Frank Trentadue, the year looks promising. Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach Frank Trentadue has high expectations for other returning players such as Reid Midanik (Defensive Half Back), Lamar Foyle (Half Back) and Kwadwo β€œJunior” Dwodeng.

It is not just the defense that is projected to have a good year. Returning Wide Receivers Kevin Collins and Alex Mashati, as well as Running Backs Simon Chang and Omar Blackford are prepared to help lead the team and put up big numbers.

Although most of the depth chart is complete, a Quarterback battle is currently taking place. Chris Sharanewych is a strong new contender to St. Mike’s field and the Jr. Argonaut coaches have been impressed by his play. However, Coach Trentadue insists that the competition for the starting position is far from over.

Coach Trentadue believes that β€œin comparison (to last year) the team is, overall, a better team”. Although the club wants to have a great year, the principal mission remains the same as it always has. As said by Trentadue, β€œIt is not only about winning, but developing young players into great people. The guys who move on (to play at the next level) that is just a bonus”.

The season begins on May 27[SUP]th[/SUP] at St. Mikes against Clarington.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
