The Toronto Jr. Argos 2012 season got off to a rough start last Saturday with a loss to the Clarington Knights.
The second quarter started with a 7-0 deficit for the Jr. Argos and to make matters worse, on the sidelines a player was benched with a serious injury. The game was plagued by penalties as both sides were particularly aggressive throughout the first game.

The Jr. Argos offense had a hard time moving the ball into Knights territory as penalties, unsuccessful rushes and pass incompletions set them back a number of times.
The defense was not able to stop Clarington as their QB was a quick thinker in the pocket and they were unable to read the deep throw. Claringtonβs running game also created challenges for the Jr. Argo defense as the Knights were able to run the ball the entire length of the field before getting a touchdown.
Luckily the Jr. Argos were able to take advantage of penalties drawn by Clarington and tie the game at 7-7 by the end of the half.
With a tie score, bad news came from the Jr. Argos bench as a player was taken away by ambulance, after being injured early in the game. Coach Frank Trentadue was unavailable for comment.
Despite not being able to gain momentum, Argoβs QB no. 12 Chris Sharanewych threw a TD pass to tie the game in the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] quarter 21-21.

But it would not be able to hold off the Knights.
After a mixture of injuries, penalties and incomplete passes the Jr. Argos had a punt attempt blocked which put the Knights in great field position and were able to get another TD to make the final score 35-21.
Chris Sharanewych won the quarterback battle that occurred during the pre-season. His first game was not the greatest, but he did show potential as he was able to complete some important passes including one for a TD.

The loss has a tough pill to swallow as the team is expected to have a great season. The team will regroup this week and take on the Sudbury Gladiators this Sunday at 5:00 PM.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
