Week 1 – OFC Players of the Week


Offensive: #88 Eric Letourneau – WR – Ottawa Sooners

10 rec. for 230 yards and 2 TD’s, in 40-26 loss to Windsor AKO Fratmen

Eric Letourneau, 2nd Year, 5’7” 160 lbs, picked up where he left off from last year. After winning CJFL rookie of the year and being named an All Canadian, Eric begin 2011 setting an Ottawa Sooners record for receiving yards in a single game with 230. Eric leads the OFC in receptions with 10, receiving yards with 230, and is tied with 3 others for most points with 12. Eric will look to help Ottawa improve to 1-1 when the Sooners travel to St. Leonard to face the 1-0 Cougars on Saturday at 8:30 pm at Stade Hebert.

Defensive: #11 Richard Veenstra – DB – Windsor AKO Fratmen

9 total tackles, 3 INT, 2 INT for TD, 34 Total Def. Points, in 40-26 win over Ottawa Sooners

Richard Veenstra, Rookie, 5’8”, 175 lbs, came off the bench to spark the AKO Fratmen Defense with 3 interceptions and 9 total tackles. Richard returned two of the interceptions for TD’s which ties an OFC record, and sets a new AKO record. Richard currently leads the OFC with 9 tackles, interceptions with 3, defensive points with 34, defensive touchdowns with 2, and is tied with 3 others for most points with 12. Richard will make his home debut on Saturday when AKO hosts the London Beefeaters at 7:30 pm at Alumni Field in a battle of unbeaten teams.


Special Teams: #10 Brody Essery – WR – Burlington Braves

K/O Returns: 6 for 136 yds, Punt Returns: 2 for 9 yds, Off.: 4 rec. for 69 yds and 1 TD, in 27-7 loss to Hamilton Hurricanes

Brody Essery, 3rd Year in the OFC (2nd with Burlington), had a terrific all-around statistical performance in a losing effort at home versus the Hamilton Hurricanes. Brody leads the OFC with 136 kick-off return yards, and had 214 all-purpose yards. Brody will help lead the Braves into Hamilton on Friday night at 7:30 pm at Ivor Wynn Stadium in a rematch of their Week 1 contest.
