OFC Week 3 head coaches comments

Ottawa is exactly the type of team that I told my team they were….explosive, discipline and will not beat themselves. They are a well coached football team and will be a group that will be tough to face all year.

My team has a great upside and we did many positive things on Saturday. We ran the ball well, dominated time of possession, and played physical. However, we turned the ball over carelessly, took penalties, and gave two big plays which allowed them to stay in the game and ultimately win in the end. I will work on fixing those things and will continue to shape my guys up so we can reach our potential at the end of the year.
Our 2 QBs both played inconsistantly And we will continue to evaluate and play both guys until one grabs the position and runs with it.

The St. Leonard game was a tough hard fought battle like we knew it would be. This week will not be any easier as the weather had a huge effect on Burlington’s last game so we are know the score is not a reflection on what they are capable of doing.
WELL WE STARTED 0-2 LAST YEAR AND IT TURNED OUT ALRIGHT:

Just as in 2009, the Beefs have opened the current season with two straight losses in spite of showing improvement in many areas of the game from week one to week two. This week the score was 26-11 for the St. Leonard Cougars.
Unfortunately the second game also saw quarterback Eric Grayson injure the wrist on his throwing hand which may sideline him indefinitely. Eric actually hurt it in the first quarter, apparently, but neglected to tell anyone one of his discomfort and carried on for the remainder of the game.
The Beefs played a very good first half on Saturday, especially on defense. Newcomer Carmine Gentile opened the scoring at 9:08 of the first quarter with a 21-yard field goal. He added to the London score with a 51 yard single less than two minutes later to make it a 4-0 score at the end of the first quarter.
London conceded a safety 10 minutes into the second frame and then the Cougars went ahead at the 13:24 mark on a 21-yard field goal by Eric Marrapodi. Less than a minute later the defense of the Beefs blocked a St. Leonard punt and Chris Vanmeppelenscheppink fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Gentile kicked the convert and the Beefs went into the locker room up 11-5.
Early in the second half the Cougars got the ball at the Beefs 40 and, following a short run and a 35-yard completion to Joel Martinez, scored a touchdown on a 1-yard plunge by Beni Djock. The conversion made it a 12-11 game and that’s how the third quarter ended.
In the fourth quarter the Cougars put together a 54-yard, six play drive to boost the score to 19-11 with the conversion.
Desperately trying to get the Beefs back in the game and, of course, playing with a broken throwing-hand wrist, Eric Grayson threw an interception near the 12:00 minute mark of the final frame that was returned 65 yards by Garrett Taylor to seal the Cougars victory. Defensively for the Beefs Chris Vanmeppelenscheppink had 4 tackles, 2 assists, 3 special teams’ tackles, a blocked kick, a knock down, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and an interception and was
named OFC Defensive Player of the Week. All total that is 30 defensive points. Omar Chams, Rob Varallo and Zack Dean were other Beefs who had outstanding games on defense. Next game is Saturday night in Burlington at Nelson Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

Back to back games are very interesting especially in such extreme weather. Last week blistering humidity, this week bucket loads of rain.
Hamilton came out as expected, hard. They played tough and there best player showed why
he is a CJFL D player of the year. Early Aram was all over us creating pressure and tracking
down our backs from every angle. The real game was who could maintain ball security in the
wet,Hamilton prevailed. 5 turnovers is unacceptable. It was a tough defensive battle all game.
I will say hats off to my defense who didn’t give up a TD, Even when Hamilton was inside
the 5 twice. For all the talent we boast we need to become a more complete team and that
was evident this past weekend. We look forward to another tough battle from London this
coming weekend.

Our team responded well after struggling in week 1.
The defence created a lot of havoc and our special teams were excellent in very tough
conditions. The league seems to have parity from top to bottom. We are expecting nothing
less this weekend. Brampton is a tough team and a break or two away from being 2 and 0.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
