London offensive lineman newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

The Carleton Ravens have strengthened their offensive line.

KC Bakker is the newest member of the team.Β  The 6’7, 300 pound offensive lineman from London, Ontario will join the team for the 2014 OUA season.

“Throughout the recruiting process, I was approached by quite a few universities, all with great qualities on and off the field,” reflected Bakker. Β “But everytime that I spoke with Coach (Steve) Sumarah, Coach (Chris) Coulson, Coach JP (Asselin), or any other coach, about the academic, athletic and volunteering possibilities offered at Carleton, I was just… excited!”

“I was told by other universities that they offer some of the same opportunities, but Carleton just felt right. Carleton has a great placement program for Criminology second year, and many opportunities first year to volunteer and give back. Β It pretty much came down to the fact that I loved the facilities, coaching staff, volunteering opportunities, and the team’s potential. Plus, it helped that Carleton is well renowned for its Social Science programs.”

The Ontario offensive lineman recently completed his high school career with the John Paul II Jaguars of the Thames Valley Region Athletic Association (TVRAA). This past season, Bakker was named Catholic Division Lineman of the Year. Β Additionally, he suited up for the Forest City Thunderbirds of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) and both the London Falcons and the London Jr. Mustangs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

In July 2013, Bakker was a member of Team Ontario that brought home a bronze medal from the Football Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick.

β€œKC is a big strong body who was someone that was on our radar for a while,” commented Ravens Head Coach Steve Sumarah.Β  β€œWe liked his size and physicality.”

β€œKC has the mind set to be physical on the field which is one of the qualities we look for in our recruiting processes.Β  We are looking forward to working with KC over the next four or five years.”
