Olivier Côté sees himself as an impact, yet under-the-radar, player.

Côté began playing for the Pointe-Levy Consaires of RSEQ Division 1B in 2011 as a second-year high schooler. For three consecutive years, the Consaires would capture the Bol D’or championship: once in the Cadet “AA” Division, and twice in the Juvenile 1B Division.

He was named to the RSEQ Juvenile Division 1B All-Star team in his final season at Pointe-Levy in 2014.

The offensive lineman says his highlights from 2015 were starting his first two CEGEP games prior to breaking his hand, and how well he rehabbed from the injury and was able to start the final two games against Campus Notre Dame de Foy(CNDF) and Edouard-Montpetit Lynx. In fact, he started those games with a cast on his left hand.

Côté credits a trio of coaches with moulding his gridiron career.

“Carl Gourgues, Pascal Baillargeon and Jean Tremblay are three of the most influential people in my life,” he said. “They are all coaches that helped me to become the player I am today, sharing with me their knowledge of the game helped by their football experience.”

Although he sees himself as an under-the-radar player, he still says he plays with an “edge,” that makes him a force to be reckoned with in between the hash marks.

Côté has been in preliminary contact with a couple of CIS universities, but is focussed on the task at hand and preparing for his sophomore season with the Faucons.

The offensive lineman is busy during the offseason but sees the importance of keeping fit at all times of the year.

“We are training in the gym three times a week, and I am also running with the rest of the team two times a week,” he commented of his training routine. “We also have football practices a minimum of once a week.”

“The gym is really important for small player; we must have an edge on other players in the gym so we can do a job as good as big players on the field.”

To improve for next season, Côté says he is going to “train as hard as I can to keep the edge that makes me who I am.”

“I want to do my job this season in a way that people will know who I am,” added Cote.
