OL Fortin quietly making name for himself

Christopher Fortin has summed up his football ambitions quite simply; he wants to become role model.

“I don’t model my game after any professional or college player because I want to be the one others will model (their game after),” Fortin said. “I like being the guy who does the big things, but nobody will talk about, so that is why I like being on o-lineman.”

Lining up as a tackle, Fortin stands at 6’5, 260lbs. He has been around the game for a total of eight years. “I started football because I love sports and my older brother made me start,” Fortin said. “He is the most influential person in my life. He is always there for me when I need him.”

Using his intelligence and football IQ to his advantage, Fortin said his primary goal is to help the team he is with to win. He has only completed at Team Québec camps. Having made the 2017 Football Canada Cup edition of the team, he said that he always tries his best at camps.

After playing with Les Patriotes de la polyvalente Bélanger (RSEQ) in high school, Fortin will be attending Le Condors du Cégep Beauce-Appalaches (RSEQ Division 2). He is a two-time championship with Les Patriotes in back-to-back seasons.

Quietly working on the line, the young football player is committed to the cause. “I just want to help this team,” Fortin said of Les Condors.

Guillaume Blouin, the head coach of Les Condors, told L’Éclairuer Progrès that Fortin is a not only very athletic, but a leader who has an exemplary attitude. He added that Fortin has the potential to develop physically. Les Condors are currently rebuilding their offensive line and Fortin is considered and important component.

While Fortin is currently on the offense, in 2014, he played as both an offensive lineman and defensive lineman. He was considered to be very useful on the defense.

After cégep, Fortin added that he wants to attend university and eventually make his way to the pro leagues. While high school ball to cégep ball is a big step, Fortin thinks he is ready for the challenge. He said it’s because he works hard in the off season. He also plans on taking time to improve his footwork before the new season.

Fortin has also competed in the RSQ Coupe Spalding. In the 2016-2017 season, he was named as the best offensive lineman. His hard work and commitment to the game has paid off. He helped his team win 10-7 over Team Saskatchewan at this year’s Football Canada Cup.
