It was called “Ring in a Night of Nostalgia”, and it was the greatest day of my professional sales career.
For almost 10 years now I have been helping High School and University students preserve their memories with a wonderful Jostens ring.
Over the last few years I have also increased my sales in Championship Jewelry. Now, thousands of championship memories are preserved in Jostens Gold and Lustrium rings.
But to borrow a quote from a colleague and dear friend, last night I changed from selling memories to selling dreams…
Almost 50 years ago, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a professional football team in the Canadian Football League embarked on a historic run of 4 Grey Cup Championships in 5 years. Two years ago some of those players found out that their arch rival the Hamilton Tiger cats had finally received rings 40 years after the fact for beating the Bombers once in 1965. These former greats couldn’t believe it. They had beaten Hamilton 4 times in 1958 ’59 ’61 & 1962 and had never received anything.
So, last night after almost two years of meeting, designing, and planning a dream finally came true for 35 surviving members of those glorious teams. For me to be there and see each player receive their ring and light up like they were 5 years old on Christmas morning is something I will never forget. These men had been like a family, and a celebration like this, culminating with a beautiful piece of handcrafted jewelry will not soon be forgotten.
On this night I now know why I do what I do. Last night we helped these men celebrate the greatest time of their lives. Thank you Jostens for making such a beautiful ring and helping me achieve the greatest day in my sales career.
For those who are not familiar with the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Football Club, during the era of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, they were coached by the Legend, Bud Grant. After coaching the Bombers to 4 Canadian Football Championships he headed south to coach the Minnesota Vikings for 18 seasons and 4 times led them to the SuperBowl. He has been inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1983) and the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1994). Last night he was on hand to receive his ring and as their coach, proceeded to hand out each player his ring and shared many wonderful stories as each player came up onto the stage.
Today I am humbled to say that I played a small part in making this happen along with the greatest “Memory Making” company in the world, Jostens.
