OMFL: Lions trounce Brampton to move to 2-0

Cambridge’s Ontario Minor Football League junior varsity Lions rolled to a 2-0 record Friday at “The Jake” with a 46-0 win over Brampton.

Dominik Valincic opened the scoring early with a touchdown after a CJ Dexter 40-yard punt return. A key block by Hayden Amis then set up Dexter for a touchdown of his own on a 90-yard punt return.

Valincic finished out the first quarter with another touchdown, giving the Lions a 20-0 lead at the whistle.

By the time the second quarter was three minutes old, Brendan Carey hit Tyler Gibner with a 15-yard touchdown pass and Carey and Gibner connected again later in the quarter for the 24-yard major.

Touchdown runs by Roly Tremblay and Alex Dueck, and four coverts by Thomas O’Leary, finished out the scoring for the Lions.

Defensively, the Lions dominated Brampton, with Jordan Parks and Shane Stevenson controlling the middle of the defensive line, Michael Gomez making big tackles and a Hayden Amis interception.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
