OMFL: Storm get ‘Expressed’ in Varsity and Junior Varsity games

The Niagara Storm varsity and junior varsity teams played the TNT Express (Beaton, ON) over the weekend in two highly competitive games.

VARSITY

The Storm had a strong Offensive game but was unable to stop the powerful running game of the Express in this loss. Greg Lamb passed for 2 touchdowns and kicked 3 converts. Jordan Clout (rushing), Trey Gervais (receiving), and Paul Hookings (receiving) scored the TDs. The TNT express made some good half time adjustments which allowed them to drive the field and maintain field possession and ate up the clock, coming out on top 25 to 21.

Head coach Don Moses had this to say about the loss. “One of our three units showed up to play today. As the Head Coach I take responsibility for this loss as I did not motivate my players enough this week, and it showed Sunday on the field. We didn’t play as a team.”

JUNIOR VARSITY

It was the defence that provided most of the highlights for the JV Storm on Fathers Day. Owen Huismen, Liam Bruch, Nathan Dalton, Kael Reilly and Kyle Bell along with the rest of the D unit all had strong games.

The turning point unfortunately was an injury in the second quarter. The storm had momentum driving the ball and were on the TNT 8 yd line going in when the critical injury occurred. After the 45 min delay it was a different game. The Storm came away empty handed after being stopped on a 4th down and short inside the 5 yd line. Final score 14 to 0 TNT.

Head coach Dave Richardson had this to say about the game. “Offensively we struggled upfront and never really generated any offence after the second quarter. The line needs to be better and they know it! We will be focussing on that part of our game this week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the young man that injured/fractured his wrist/arm and wish him a speedy recovery.”
