The Storm, down only 8 – 0 at the half, gave up a kick off return by to open the second half which was the turning point of the game. Defensively the Storm played a strong game, stopping the Steelers on many occasions including a goal line stand. Defensive players who stood out were Luka Trifunovic (sack & QB pressure), and linebackers Duncan Given and Mitch Gardiner.

Coach Don Moses had this to say about the game. “The game of football is played with three individual units making up an entire team. Only one of our units came out to play Sunday afternoon. Two touchdown returns against our Special Teams unit and one interception for a touchdown against our Offense dictated the outcome of this game. Hamilton is a strong team but I know we have the talent to beat them. We will get our chance in the playoffs.”

Final score: Hamilton 29, Niagara 0

An early long TD pass by the Steelers seemed to deflate the Storm, coupled with poor tackling, and the Storm never recovered from the early mark. QB Jake Droughan scored the lone touchdown for the storm on a sneak. Strong games were put forth by Levar Washington, Graham Dowd, and Zach Godin. Matt Lane performed the kicking duties exceptionally well.

Coach Dave Richardson had this to say about the performance. “The offence was the best unit on the field for the Storm, they moved the ball down the field only to fall short and not score when they had the opportunity and they had several chances. Position play and tackling really hurt the defensive side of the ball that never got on track all game long. Special teams play has improved with some good returns and it’s good to see Matt Lane kicking the ball well. Even though the score doesn’t show it, we have taken steps forward and really see some positive things out there. Next week we expect to be on the other side of the score board!”

Final score: Hamilton 55, Niagara 7

Next game: Pickering Dolphins, June 11th
