OMFL: Storm play best football of the year versus Halton

Varsity

With a very short bench the Niagara Storm came to Halton to play their best football of the year. Coming up short on the score board the Storm showcased many individual and team highlights on all three units of the team.

The turning point of the game was when the Crimson Tide returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown. The offence was unable to rebound with exhausted players playing two ways.

Scoring for Niagara were Greg Lamb (2 TD passes, 2 converts), Clayton Upshaw (1 TD reception), Jordan Clout (1 TD), Connor Hickingbottom (1 TD reception). Final score was 21 to 20 for Halton.

Head Coach Don Moses has this to say about the game: “After a week of rebuilding Team Camaraderie, I feel we were successful. The team showed great improvement in all three aspects of the game. It was unfortunate that with the end of the school year we went to Halton short of players. This is the third time we have lost a close game to a team that I know we can beat. I look forward to meeting this team and the others in the second half of the season and playoffs.”

The Storm took the opening drive down the field for the games first touchdown but unfortunately could not hold on to that lead. Graham Dowd continues to be a force on offence and Kael Reilly had a strong game on defence. The turning point was a Bison’s long completion for a touchdown in the second quarter that seemed to give Brantford all the momentum. The Bisons ended up on top by a score of 33 to 21.

Head Coach Dave Richardson had this to say about the game: “We come out on fire in the first quarter and completely dominated in every aspect of the game. But we started to shoot ourselves in the foot in the second quarter, it was a complete lack of focus which cost us on offence and resulted in four big play touchdowns against us on defence. I have to take full responsibility for my teams’ lack of discipline in their play. That was a game that we should have never let get away.”
