ONT (CISAA): CFC#20 Saints remain undefeated, CFCTOP100 pivot shines in win

CFC#20 St. Andrew’s College Saints overcame a constant pouring rain and a sloppy and muddy field to defeat the TCS Bears 34-1 this afternoon in Port Hope. The victory improved the Saints overall record to 5-0 and clinched first place in CISAA and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

CFC TOP 100 quarterback Chris Merchant was exceptional today and led the offence to 5 scoring drives. Despite the awful conditions, Merchant threw for 3 touchdowns and over 350 yards. He also added a rushing touchdown. Smooth slot-back Ryan Keays was the leading receiver with 2 touchdowns and over 200 yards receiving, while Zach Marcus added several key receptions, including a long touchdown strike from Merchant. Jordan Carter tallied the final touchdown of the day with an electrifying 30 yard run.

The Saints offensive line of Cody McMillan, Adam Ashby, Jonathan Harvey, Riley Fischer and Duncan Robertson were once again outstanding today. The big ‘war daddies’ were fantastic in pass protection and created several nice lanes in the running game.

The Saints defence was absolutely dominant today.  Playmaking linebacker Fraser Sopik once again led the way. Sopik continues to make plays all over the field on a weekly basis. Callum Green, Edward Essue, Liam Joiner, and Michael Mardini joined Sopik in smothering the Bears’ running game.

Ball-hawk cornerback Jordan Carter led the secondary, while Bo Zhang, Josh Carter, Angelis Prattas, and Quen Campbell also enjoyed strong games in the defensive backfield. It was a struggle for the Bears offence to generate first downs for most of the afternoon as the Saints defence played smart and inspired football.

Next up for the Saints is a home game on Saturday against the Villanova College Knights. Saturday’s game will be the final regular season game of 2013.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
