ONT (Durham): Redemption on Titans agenda in rematch against Trojans

A loss that Holy Trinity Titans players consider embarrassing is still fresh in their heads, and this Tuesday they’ll get the chance to clear their consciences. Pickering on the other hand will get the chance to prove  that they are the indisputable better team in the match up.  Pickering is riding a four game win streak with it’s latest victory coming in the LOSSA quarter finals over an over matched Ajax squad. The Titans earned themselves a bye week after a much needed win over Donald A Wilson. The extra week bodes well for Holy Trinity as they have had an extra week preparing for two headed attack at quarterback for the Trojans.

In the first match up the Pickering offence literally ran all around the Titan defence, scoring two touchdowns without completing a forward pass. The bulk of the runs came from a running back turned quarterback in Darnell Jarrett who was made quarterback in the wake of injury. Jarret  still occasionally plays quarter back along with normal quarterback Jaylen Latouche, this is the two headed offence aforementioned in the introduction.

One could look at the score of 13-7  loss and guess that the defence had a nice day, after all they only allowed two touchdowns right? Though the scoring defence looks great but it was in which the Trojans scored that stings a proud Titans defensive unit. The Trojans did not complete a single forward pass yet managed to consistently move the ball in chunks. Most of the runs were either outside quarterback wraps in which contain broke down multiple times, or the Trojans would gash the Titans through the middle. For the Holy Trinity defence to redeem itself the defensive line must play selflessly, containing and stuffing run lanes one every play including pass plays. This means that the defensive line must not get caught up in trying for sacks or tackle for losses, they must keep the quarterback (no matter who) in the pocket and let the linebackers scrap down to stop the ball carriers.

On the other side of the ball the Titans will look just to score after being shut out in the previous game (7 points came from fumble recovery in endzone for defence). Holy Trinity ended it’s endzone drought last week by scoring against the Gators and will try to build on the encouraging performance. In order to score it comes down to execution, every man doing their job every play. In the two games the Titans were held out of the endzone (and lost) you could look at the film and say a block here, or a cut there could’ve scored and changed the game. The value of of one play can not be understated,  especially in the no huddle offence the Titans have run where momentum is everything.

This game is very winnable on both sides and is very close on paper.  The teams are very close in talent.  Therefore it simply goes to who wants it more, and with their seasons on the line the will to win will be high on both sides of the field.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
