ONT (Guelph District 10) Week 6: Familiar playoff picture emerges

In the first week of district 10 playoff ball all the usual faces were able to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Due to a restructured format this year, district 10’s bottom 6 of 7 teams took part in a quarter final round of playoffs last week. The newly drafted playoff structure, however, did nothing to alter the landscape of district 10 football as the GCVI Gaels, St. James Lions, Our Lady of Lourdes Crusaders, and Ross Royals will once again battle it out for the D10 championship.

On Thursday Orangeville visited St. James to begin post season play, marking Orangeville’s first playoff game. The 2-2 squad showed some promise winning two straight out of the gate (albeit against the two worst teams in the league) but couldn’t take the next step losing 42-10. Lions’ running backΒ Rodrigue Kinga had three touchdowns in the winning effort.

The late game on Thursday saw a match up of week 5 as Centennial and GCVI met again under the lights of Alumni Stadium. Once again the Gaels were victorious, handling the Spartans 28-6.Β Jonah Hopkins had two scores for the Gaels.

The lone Friday game saw Bishop Mac visit Lourdes Β in what was ultimately a futile effort. The Crusaders dominated winning 37-0 on a brisk fall afternoon.Β Jeremy Kennedy andΒ Nick Parisotto both had two touchdowns in the contest.

Ross enjoyed a bye week after finishing first in regular season play.

On Thursday afternoon St. James will visit Ross at 3pm, while GCVI will host Lourdes at 7pm at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Stadium. The pairings are the same ones that took place in last years semi finals.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
