This past Thursday, Β Westdale Warriors played against the Churchill Bulldogs, not taking anything lightly after their tight victory over the Westmount Wildcats.

They put in a long hard week of practice to prepare, knowing that they had players with several injuries going into this game. Β Among the injured included Β both starting running backs Jacob Wolfendon and Owen Angus-Yamata. However, it also provided a chance for backup running backs Ethan Paxton and Matt Oliver to show their skills and get a chance to run the ball.

With the pre-game speech and the opening kickoff, the Warriors were ready to play. When the Bulldogs offense took to the field, the Warrior defense was ready to hold their ground. With the Bulldogs offense going through all cylinders to get that first down, Westdale had to bring out the best in everyone to shut them down. As a result, the Bulldogs were forced to third down and they opted to punt.

With Sam Malvolta and his offense on the field, they were moving the sticks. Pushing the ball into the Bulldogs territory, the Warriors were in scoring range. Finally, with a hard set series of downs, the Warriors got on the board with Sam Malvolta hitting Tyler Walker for a touchdown and a Matt Oliver PAT to put the Warriors up 7-0.

After the Bulldogs had the ball back several times they were unable to capitalize and were concealed by the Warriors defense. Β After a hard hitting set of downs, the Warriors got the ball back. With the ball in the Warriors territory halfway through the second quarter, Malvolta was on the move. As he marched down the field and moved the sticks like it was nothing, the Warriors offense made it look easy. All that work paid off as Malvolta ran into the end-zone for a touchdown and added the extra point to make it 14-0.

Going into halftime, the Warriors had a comfortable 14-0 lead.

In the second half, Β it turned out to be a slugfest with some huge hits by Cody Ricottone, Charlie Taggart, Tyler Lamb and Elias Korstanje. Β Moreover, the Warriors dominated the ground game with Ethan Paxton in the backfield, who gained over 125 yards in the first half alone. Malvolta connected with Tyler Walker for a second time in the end-zone with a long bomb right on target which put the Warriors up 21-0 going into the fourth quarter.

Nearing the end of the game, the Warriors were untouchable as the team’s defense shut down the Bulldogs offense. Β Additionally, Malvolta took it to the air one last time to Brendan Opie coming across the line and into the end-zone, finishing off the game 35-0 and sending the Bulldogs home scared.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
