ONT: Homecoming victory for Saints

The Varsity Football Saints defeated the St. Mike’s Kerry Blues 44-24 at homecoming this afternoon in front of a tremendous crowd of supportive and enthusiastic fans.

The Saints offensive stars were at their best today. Running back Jonathan Femi-Cole rushed for 5 touchdowns and over 250 yards, while quarterback Chris Merchant made several exceptional plays with this arm and his feet. Smooth slotback Ryan Keays scored the other Saints touchdown, while Zach Marcus joined Keays in contributing several nice receptions to the Saints offensive attack. The Saints offensive line battled all day to help the offence move the chains.

Defensively, the Saints were once again led by star linebacker Fraser Sopik. Sopik had two tremendous interceptions while also stockpiling tackles all over the field. Linebacker Callum Green also played a strong game, while ball-hawks Jordan Carter and Josh Carter were stellar in coverage all afternoon. The defence deserves a tremendous amount of credit for closing the door and playing their best in the 4th quarter.

The victory improved the Saints overall record on the season to 2-0, with today’s win being the first conference victory. Next up for the Saints is a road game in Ottawa against the Ashbury College Colts next Saturday.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
