Ontario: Downsview jamboree a big success – All star team announced

Nine Tier 2 and 3 teams from TDSB, LOSSAA, Halton and Peel got together on Friday September 16 for a ‘scrimmage jamboree’ at Downsview Park in Toronto.

The Downsview Mustangs 1st annual jamboree was a great event and fun was had by all involved. Each team butted heads in 4, 45-minute scrimmages with opponents of similar talent/experience levels. No blowouts or mismatches were reported, which was the overall goal of the event – to provide a development and learning experience for teams of ‘mid-major’ levels, avoiding the mismatches of preseason matchups from year’s past.

Players were able to test their skills and coaches were able to test their schemes against opponents of similar levels. Teams got to film themselves and opponents throughout the day to help with teaching back in the classroom.

One top performer from each team received an ‘All Star Team’ recognition and trophy.

A visit from University of Toronto Assistant Coach John Engel helped to identify 9 of the top talents on the day, forming the ‘Jamboree All-Star Team’ for 2011

RB Connor Vale from St. Stephen’s (LOSSAA Tier 2) had an outstanding performance on the day, with multiple touchdowns throughout.

DE Nathaneal Cameron from Laurier (TDSB Tier 1 East) brought the pressure to opposing backfields all day long.

QB Luke O’Connor, from Western Tech (TDSB Tier 2) made a number of impressive throws in the Colts’ spread offence.

FB Trae Chisholm-Lyn from host Downsview (TDSB Tier 2) overcame an early dislocated finger to make several big runs and de-cleating blocks.

QB Andrew Tee from R.F.Hall (Peel T2 North) was impressive on the day, executing both in the pocket and on the run throughout.

WR/FS Adham Hussein helped lead Robert Borden (TDSB Tier 3) to a very successful day on both sides of the ball, for the 2nd year team.

QB Jeremy Ambraska, from Eastern Commerce/Monarch Park’s twinned team (TDSB T2) showed poise and leadership for the Saints.

WR/Wingback Joshua Goldstein from Forest Hill CI (TDSB Tier 3) made a number of great grabs and scored a couple nice TDS on the day for his Falcons.

WR Connor Jensen from Oakville’s T.A. Blakelock (Halton Tier 2) showed great potential in leading his team to a successful afternoon.

A special thanks to Downsview Park’s Facility staff for their help and accommodation throughout the day.

Next year’s event promises to be even bigger and better!

Overall the day was a great success and look for your invitation to the 2012 event next September!

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
