Ontario invasion

Ontario recruits commit to AUS team.

Three Ontario players have decided to call an AUS team their new football home.

Matt Delmas, Troy Adams and Michael Busse are the newest additions to the Saint Mary’s (SMU) Huskies.

“We are very excited to have Matt, Troy and Michael join our football family,” commented Huskies head coach Perry Marchese of the newest commitments to the team.

TROY ADAMS:

The 5’10, 200 pound linebacker from Newmarket, Ontario joins the Huskies after a successful high school career with the Huron Heights Warriors of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA).  This past season, Troy helped the Warriors to an undefeated 11-0 record en route to a Metro Bowl Championship title over Donald A Wilson as well as an YRAA championship.  For his exceptional play in 2012 (two interceptions and two touchdowns), the Ontario linebacker was selected as an YRAA all-star.

One of his reasons for committing the Huskies was the guidance Marchese gave the Ontario defensive standout during the recruitment process.  After his visit to the Halifax, Nova Scotia campus, Troy knew that it was the place where he wanted to begin his CIS career.

“When visiting Saint Mary’s, I really liked the small school feel which made me feel welcome right away,” explained Troy.  “Coach Perry was awesome with helping me throughout the process, ultimately leading to my decision to join the Huskies.”

Matt Delmas

MATT DELMAS:

A native son is returning back to the province.  While the 6’3, 235 pound defensive lineman was born in Bedford, Nova Scotia, he has lived and played football in Oakville, Ontario. He recently completed his high school career with St. Ignatius of Loyola Hawks.  In his senior year with the Hawks, Matt registered 11 sacks in seven games.

Additionally, the Ontario defensive standout has played for the varsity Burlington Stampeders of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) and the junior varsity Halton Cowboys of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Not only is it a childhood dream realized, but Matt was impressed with Saint Mary’s football academic programs.

“I grew up watching SMU football,” said Matt.  “Born and raised in Bedford Nova Scotia I’m extremely happy to be back on the East Coast.”

“SMU in my mind is the best football program in the nation and am extremely privileged to be a part of the SMU family. I loved the honestly from the players and coaches and feel it’s the best fit for me. As well as the phenomenal football program, the academics programs will allow me to acquire a job after football.”
