Nelson High School will unveil its new much-anticipated state-of-the-art, 110-yard artificial turf field at an official ceremony on Friday, September 9, 2011, to be attended by a number of dignitaries and officials.

The ceremony will take place at Nelson Stadium, located beside the school at 4181 New Street in Burlington, starting at 12:30 p.m. A football game between the Nelson Lords and Mother Teresa Spartans from London, Ontario will take place afterward. The public is welcome to attend.

The approximately $1-million project is a joint partnership between the Halton District School Board and the City of Burlington. The artificial turf field is expected to provide a quality playing surface for many years. The turf, part of the S4-R intensity series, is manufactured by UBU Sports.~Dol Turf Restoration is the field contractor.

The field, installed over the summer, will be used for football, soccer and field hockey games.

“This project is an excellent example of how a community that supports youth, team, and healthy lifestyles can collaborate to make a great facility work for everyone,” says Nelson Principal Jacqueline Newton. β€œWe will enjoy cheering for teams from both Nelson and the City of Burlington for years to come.”

β€œWith our rich athletic tradition, many former Nelson Lords alumni supported this new turf,” says Bob Stacey, head of physical education at Nelson High School.
