When the 2014 Ontario Prospect Challenge kicked off, the best young football players the province has to offer came together to distinguish themselves, on and off the field through practices, discussions with coaches and games.

For defensive tackle Sage Doxtator of the London Jr. Mustangs, it was that “level of competition” that he lived for, both at tryouts and come game time.

While Doxtator, a hulking 6’7”, dwarfed many of his fellow teammates on Team West in the “Junior Varsity” class, he enjoyed the chance to compete with new players and test his skills.

For Doxtator, it was a chance to test a new set of skills too, as a change in position was among the challenges he faced.

“I usually play offensive tackle, so the OPC was a good chance to play on the defensive line,” Doxtator said.

Like many of his fellow players, Doxtator also enjoyed the chance to meet new players and forge some relationships off the field.

With an ambition that matches his size, Doxtator aspires for nothing short of greatness.

At a young age, just having completed grade 10, Doxtator has his sights set well beyond high school.

“I want to be an All-American,” he said, pointedly and directly, referring to an aspiration to not only play NCAA football one day, but to be among it’s best players at his position.

Doxtator doesn’t mince his words when discussing what he hopes to accomplish.

“My goals are to play in the NCAA and hopefully the NFL.”

While these are lofty goals, they aren’t out of the picture for a budding young player in Ontario.

Doxtator doesn’t stop with the NFL either.

He hopes to live up to some of its premier defensive players too, noting that he models his game after Green Bay Packers defensive end and outside linebacker Julius Peppers, as well as legendary Green Bay Packers defensive end and defensive tackle Reggie White, both of whom used their height to their advantage.

In order to continue to reach that goal, Doxtator plans to continue to dedicate himself to working out, noting that he needs to run a lot more.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
