In grade 10 Marc Liegghio started his gridiron career as kicker and wide receiver for the Bill Crothers Colts of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA).

That same year, the kicker joined the Newmarker Bucs of the  Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Since beginning his gridiron journey he has been awarded both YRAA and OVFL MVP. The Colt has also broken records, and has made several All-Star teams.

“The experience has been great so far, I’ve had the opportunity to work with great coaches and have made many new friends,” said Liegghio. “Football has helped to open doors for me [and] I know it will continue to be a big part of my future.”

Liegghio does not see himself as having an offseason due to his training schedule. When the season finishes he begins a gym schedule with his coach that consists of weight training three times a week. He also works a few times a week with a couple of CIS kickers to keep him motivated and prepared for the upcoming season.

“[The] Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) will give me the opportunity to experience different coaching techniques and compete with a higher calibre of player,” explains the Colt. “My goal is to kick my best and score as many point as possible to help my team win.”

Liegghio would love to make the CFC 100, but is aware that kickers and punters do not make the list.

The Colt’s favourite thing about football is the pressure of being a kicker.

“A]ll eyes are on you to make that field goal, when you get ‘it’s good,’ there is no greater feeling,” says Liegghio. “It is [also] very important to get your team in good field position with effective punting.”
