Taylor Stalkie fell in love with football the very first time he stepped onto the field in grade nine with the Napanee Golden Hawks of the Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association (KASSAA).

The linebacker then tried out for the Kingston Grenadiers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) because of recommendations from their coaches, his high school coach and scouts. Stalkie ended up making the team and had a successful season as a starter on the junior varsity team.

This past fall season Stalkie, now in the tenth grade, played for the Golden Hawks again, and was their defensive captain.

The Golden Hawk trains everyday and is disciplined when it comes to his diet and exercise routines.

“I keep my cardio up by running on the treadmill and track and I do a lot of weight training and agility drills,” said Stalkie. “I also watch a lot of football to learn as much as I can about the game.”

Stalkie also plays rep hockey, which will keep him in shape until football season. He also plays a number of other school sports including basketball, rugby and he hopes to do track this spring as well.

“My goal for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC)] is to get as much exposure as possible to play university football and have the opportunity to compete with some of the best players in the province,” explained the linebacker. “My ultimate goal is to play in the game!”

The Golden Hawk also aims to be on the CFC 100 list in his graduating year.

“Having my name alongside some of the best players in Canada for my age group is definitely a dream of mine,” adds Stalkie. “To be recognized for your ability to play football as one of the best in the country is something I strive for day in and day out.”

Stalkie’s favourite thing about football is the big moments in the games, where one play can turn everything around in an instant.

“It can be a big hit, a big sack or an interception,” described the Golden Hawk. “Football really gives that ‘team’ feeling and you need to work together as a unit to be successful.”
