In 2013, Tristan Mattrasingh’s initial position was wide receiver, but the coaches of the Ontario Varsity Football League’s (OVFL) Oshawa Hawkeyes needed someone to play defensive back.

Last year was the first year the Hawkeyes’ standout registered for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC), but he only make it as far as the Top 100 tryouts.

This past March, Tirstan volunteered at a football camp with SuperElite, where he met the Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Natey Adjei. Adjei trains with a program called Tey Fit.

Tristan started and continues to do training on the weekends with Adjei, and works on drills, catching, weightlifting and more.

Moreover, in the tenth grade he switched schools to play football with the Paul Dwyer Saints in the Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (LOSSAA).

He is currently the team’s starting wide receiver.

“During the offseason I go to the gym almost every day,” said Tristan. “I [also] watch old games/video of mine to see where I can improve.”

The Saint’s graduating year is in 2017 and being on the #CFC100 list is a goal of his. Additionally, he would like to get further in this year’s OPC.

“My goal for the OPC [this year] is to make it to the top 100 team and play at Tim Horton’s field in Hamilton,” commented the wide receiver.

His gridiron role model is Drew Brees of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints because of who he is as a leader on and off the field.

Overall, he is passionate about playing the sport.

“I love to play football because it is the only sport I have seriously committed to and also because I am good at it,” explained Tristan. “Football has helped me grow as a person on and off the field.”

“I take football very seriously. I want to go all the way. I hope to play for an American college/university and eventually end up in the NFL.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
