Ontario recruit hopes to be a SMU factor

Toronto defensive back recently joins AUS team’s 2015 class.

Davian Lynch-Reid will be commencing his CIS career on the Atlantic Coast.

Recently, the Saint Maryā€™s Huskies announced that the 6ā€™1, 190 pound defensive back from Toronto, Ontario has committed to the football program.Ā  Lynch-Reid will join the Huskies for the 2015 AUS season.

ā€œWe are extremely happy to add a student athlete like Davian to the SMU football family,ā€ commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

Lynch-Reid guided the St. Mary Monarchs to both Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (LOSSAA) and OFSAA Bowl Championships in 2013.Ā  Additionally in 2012, the Monarchs also claimed a LOSSAA crown.

The defensive back also suited up for the Oshawa Hawkeyes of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

ā€œI was looking for a school that was relatively small compared to some of the larger schools that I have visited,ā€ reflected Lynch-Reid of his decision.Ā  ā€œWhen I had my recruiting trip at St Maryā€™s last May I felt St. Maryā€™s was the perfect fit for me.ā€

Additionally, academics played a significant part in his choice.Ā  It didnā€™t hurt that a couple of former teammates were already in the Huskies football family either.

ā€œSt. Maryā€™s Masterā€™s program in commerce is also a huge reason as to why I would like to attend the school. It is goal I hope to reach in my years as a Huskie,ā€ said Lynch-Reid.Ā  ā€œAlso, having two close former teammates Clay Matthews-Reid and Kanaar Bell that already attend the school ensured me that I would really enjoy the school as well as the football program.ā€

Now with the decision made, the defensive standout can focus on the next chapter of his career.

ā€œI really hope to be a contributing factor to the Huskies team this coming fall,ā€ added Lynch-Reid.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
