Ontario (Toronto): VIDEO: Tevaun Smith shows why he may be top receiver in canada, helping chaminade defeat bosco

Homecoming weekend turned out to be quite a satisfying day for Chaminade alumni as their senior team ran away from Don Bosco in a spirited affair. Chaminade’s Tevaun Smith (below picture) electrified the crowd with 2 receiving touchdowns and 1 punt return touchdown.

SENIOR GAME

In what should have been listed as a CFC game of the week, the chaminade gryphons (Toronto) hosted Don Bosco (Etobicoke) on a spectacular fall day in toronto. This toronto rivalry takes on even more importance when their are many players from each team that play summer football together for the metro wildcats or etobicoke eagles of the OVFL and Toronto Jr. Ticats of the OMFL.

The game opened with a spectacular fade touchdown from chaminade QB Nikko Stamatis to the aforementioned Tevaun Smith. Chaminade scored another touchdown, this time by Riser Market (1 of 2 on the day), and the two teams began to become a little chippy. The crowd which was big and loud joined in the enthusiasm as the game was delayed to get the crowd under control (maybe some security next time Mr. Principal?).

Both teams (and the crowd) regained their composure and the half ended with chaminade leading 21 to 6. Marvin Banner converted all three first half TDs. Mahlique Marks scored Bosco’s lone first half touchdown.

The second half saw the visiting team show some great fight with some big plays by Raymond Ogbeide (1 touchdown run, and one spectacular INT catch). Also, Denzel Philip made what may have been the play of the game when he intercepted a chaminade swing pass on his own 15 yard line and took it back 95 yards for the score. Josh Agyei had another great INT for Bosco. Tevaun Smith got back into the act with a 3rd quarter punt return touchdown from mid field and a 4th quarter crossing pattern which he then turned up field for a 30 yard touchdown. We actually think Tevaun was underused in the Gryphon offense.

Both teams played a hard fought game and are both to be commended on a great game. Final score was 42 to 22 for chaminade. Marvin Banner scored a late touchdown for chaminade and Matt Petrozza scored a 2 point convert for Bosco. Marcus Grandison played well for chaminade on defense as did Stewart Anoya on the offensive line.

NOTE: We hope that FOOTBALL CANADA officials consider Tevaun Smith for the TEAM WORLD VS. TEAM USA (LINK TO 2010 GAME) game that will be held during super bowl week in Dallas. A press release will follow soon.
HINT: The head coach will be a canadian and the defensive coordinator for TEAM WORLD may have been at today’s game :).
Last year only 2 high school students were selected to TEAM WORLD. They were Brandon Bridge (Alcorn State – FCS) and Tyler Crapigna (McMaster – CIS). Tevaun was just selected to play in an all star game put on by football camp company National Underclassmen Combines.

JUNIOR GAME

In the junior game Bosco defeated chaminade by a score of 32 to 12. The Bosco juniors may be the biggest junior football team in the country with an average line size of over 250 pounds.
Included in that line is Temba Jennings and Louis Melina.

Scoring for chaminade were Marvin Gayner and Taygue Kelly, each with a TD. For Bosco was Kyle Brow, Allansen Alexander, D’Andre Cuellar, Clinton Leonard, and Shaemar Lawson each with a TD. Terrel Swaby chipped in with a 2 point convert.

Clinton Leonard was the player of the game. CFC first spotted Clinton in the summer and he continues to dominate with his size, speed and vision. Leonard finished the day with over 200 yards rushing.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
