OPC: Team Central Minor DL Trench honoured to participate

The countdown begins to CanadaFootballChat.com Ontario Prospect Challenge on the May 1st weekend. Ā In the days leading up to OPC, CFC will preview the teams, coaches and players participating in the big event.

Elijah Trench has thrived as a leader.

ā€œAlong with being a good player, I motivate my teammates during good and bad times,ā€ explained the 4ā€™10 150 pound defensive lineman.

During his time with the Durham Dolphins of the Ontario Minor Football League (OMFL), Trench has enjoyed two aspects of playing on the defensive line as a tackle and end.

ā€œI like the opportunity to sack the quarterback and play smash mouth football with the offensive linemen,ā€ said Trench.

One family member has been a strong influence in the Ontario standoutā€™s gridiron career thus far.

ā€œMy cousin Nathaniel is also a football player,ā€ expressed Trench.Ā  ā€œI look up to him.ā€

Already in his career, the defensive lineman has experienced a personal yet memorable moment on the field.

ā€œI was seven years old and scored my first PAT,ā€ recalled Trench of his gridiron highlight.

This weekend, Trench will participate in one of the biggest events of his young gridiron career.Ā  He will participate in the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) as a member of Team Centralā€™s Minor squad.

ā€œI was invited so I accepted the invitation,ā€ reflected the Team Central defensive end on his introduction to OPC. ā€œWhat an honour!ā€

Trench has reaped the rewards and benefits of the OPC process.

ā€œIt’s been great,ā€ commented Trench of the experience.Ā  ā€œI met some new friends and also got some cool swag!ā€

ā€œI’ve learned a lot from the coaches and know some of them from teams I’ve played in the past.ā€

With the pressure of playing in a big stadium with many people watching on, the Team Central standout has been doing his best to prepare for the situation at hand.

ā€œI have been practicing with the team,ā€ said Trench.Ā  ā€œGame day preparations include beats by Dre on and listening to favourite songs.ā€

Not only is he looking forward to the healthy competition, but the opportunity to showcase his talents as well.

ā€œI’m glad I get to play with some of the best players from my age group,ā€ added Trench.Ā  ā€œI’m hoping to be on TV and show the coaches why I was chosen to be here.ā€

With the fact that Trench is only in grade five, he is a long way off from beginning the recruitment process.Ā  However, he is sure of his career aspirations as he would like to realize his gridiron dream of playing in the NFL.Ā  However, if he does not get drafted by an NFL team, he would study to become a lawyer.

In the present, Trench has a couple of goals heā€™s like to achieve at OPC.

ā€œI want to win the game and my personal goal is to get four sacks,ā€ offered the Team Central defensive standout.

If he accomplishes this, it will put him in the driverā€™s seat to accomplish a long-term feat.

ā€œAs a player, I want to be a leader and win games,ā€ commented Trench.
