Ottawa defensive back joins AUS team’s 2016 class.
Phil Baptiste will be migrating to New Brunswick in the near distant future so that he can compete at the CIS level.
The 5’10, 180 pound defensive back from Ottawa, Ontario committed to Mount Allison Mounties. Β Baptiste will join the team for the 2016 AUS season.
Among the teams Baptiste has suited up for during his gridiron career include CEGEP Division 1’s Vanier College Cheetahs, Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Nepean Redskins of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA).
After his commitment, the defensive standout released the following statement about his decision:
“First and foremost Iβd like to give God the glory for the opportunity of continuing my academic and football career at the next level. My decision to pick Mount Allison is one that I know will benefit me for the next couple of years. It’s a blessing to know that I’ll be joining the two time AUS champions, competing and playing the sport I love.”
“Many components influenced my decision. The academic, athletic and community aspect were the major factors in my decision to commit to Mount A.”
“Being the number one undergraduate school in Canada made the academic decision easy for me, family and friends know Mount Allison as one of the elite academic undergrad programs in the country. For football , Mount Allison is a nationally known as one of the best programs in the country. Playing alongside my old teammate Cam Laing-Richardson is going to be a blessing and influenced my decision to Mount Allison.”

Along my recruiting process heβs kept in touch with me as much as possible even when busy, which I found extremely important and appreciative of. He made me feel like I was the number one recruit on his recruiting board. His defensive scheme is exceptional, and I can see myself fitting well into the system.”
“This community of fans is next to none and I canβt wait to get to work and hopefully bring home a third AUS title for the town of Sackville. This team has all the intangible neededΒ to compete for a Vanier cup.
