THE PARTY
The Ottawa Sooners are celebrating their 50th anniversary this season. This Saturday’s home game (September 25th) vs. the London Beefeaters is our “anniversary party.” Game time is 7:00pm at the Keith Harris Field located on the Carleton University campus.

ALL ALUMNI INVITED
We are inviting all past players, coaches and staff to attend! If you have ever been involved with the Sooners, come out to the game and cheer on the team. Join other alumni in celebrating the game. It is estimated that there are over two thousand alumni in the Ottawa area and it is important that you come out to support the organization and the 2010 edition of the Ottawa Sooners. Don’t miss this great opportunity to relive part of your past.
Remember: ONCE A SOONER……ALWAYS A SOONER

THE GAME
This is an important game for the Sooners, who are currently tied with St Leonard’s, Hamilton and Burlington for first place in the OFC with a record of 4-2. The London Beefeaters have a record of 2-4. The Sooners finish up the regular season with a game in Brampton on October 2nd, and a bye the following week.

HISTORY
The Sooners began play at the intermediate level of the Ottawa and District Intermediate Football League in 1960. They joined the Inter-Provincial Junior Football League in 1962 and won the league title; starting a winning tradition upheld by the team ever since.

The Sooners played in the Senior Ottawa Football Union in 1970 and 1971, winning the league championship in their first season. They returned to the junior level in 1972, becoming members of the Quebec Junior Football Conference for two years, then moved on to the Ontario Football Conference in 1974. They have won the Canadian Junior Football Championship four times; 1974, 1979, 1984, and 1992, and were runners-up nine other seasons.

The Sooners moved to the Quebec Major Junior Football League in 1996, with success, winning the Manson Cup three times (1997, 2001 and 2002). The Sooners returned to the Ontario Football Conference in 2009 and, in their first year back, won the OFC championship.

DID YOU KNOW…?
Ever wonder how the Ottawa Sooners got their name?
Bruce Hamilton, in an interview on July 18, 1981, explained: “They were called the Sooners, because they used the old Oklahoma defence. The Okie and the Eagle were the popular defenses then, and the Oklahoma team was called the Sooners, so Bruce decided to call the Ottawa club the Sooners”
