OUA, Canada West, & RSEQ players of the week
Marshall, Reinhart and Campbell earn OUA football player of the week recognition.

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 14, 2012.
OFFENCE: Brian Marshall, Western Mustangs, Receiver
Brian Marshall (London, Ont.) had a standout game on the gridiron in Saturday’s 56-3 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks. The third-year receiver caught seven passes for 187 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdown receptions ties Marshall with Mustang greats Nigel Wilson, Andy Fantuz and Nick Pasic for the most touchdowns in a single game by a Western player. Marshall broke the game open for Western in the first quarter with a 69-yard touchdown reception, followed quickly by a 55-yard score.
DEFENCE: Jake Reinhart, Guelph Gryphons, Linebacker
Jake Reinhart (Guelph, Ont.) helped lead the Guelph Gryphons to a 33-28 win over the No. 4 Queen’s Gaels to record the team’s sixth straight victory this season. The six-foot, 220 pound linebacker racked up a game-high five solo tackles, four assisted tackles and one interception for seven yards. The fifth-year linebacker held the nation’s second best running back to under 100 yards and also contributed to special teams unit as the long snapper, filling in for Guelph’s injured starter. Reinhart sits seventh in the CIS for tackles. With the win, the Gryphons clinch second place in the OUA standings and a bye in the OUA quarter-finals.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Vincent Campbell, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Receiver
Vincent Campbell started a big day against the Waterloo Warriors by returning the opening kickoff 107 yards for his first return touchdown of the season. That play is the longest CIS runback this season, and is only the second kickoff to be returned for a touchdown in 2012. The Gatineau, Que. native averaged 12.7 yards on seven punt returns, as the crafty rookie dodged and leapt around would-tacklers to total 89 yards on punt returns and 149 yards on kickoffs. Campbell also led the Gee-Gees receiving corps with 76 yards on four catches, scoring his second touchdown on a 48-yard reception.

Canada West football Players of the Week: Lumbala, Rideout, Mark

EDMONTON – Calgary Dinos RB Steven Lumbala, UBC T-Birds DB Bryan Rideout and Dinos kicker / punter Johnny Mark are Canada West football Players of the Week.
OFFENCE: #3 Steven Lumbala, Calgary

The conference and the Calgary Dinos had been waiting for Steven Lumbala to break out in a game this season – and he did it Friday night in a 51-1 road win over the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.
Lumbala ran for 217 yards on 22 carries, adding one catch for 31 yards and scoring three touchdowns to lead the Dinos to a 6-0 record. It was easily his best performance of the season, and it vaulted the 2011 first team all-Canadian back into top spot on the Canada West rushing leaderboard with 505 yards, despite seeing action in just four of the Dinos’ six games on the season. He’s also the touchdowns leader with nine (eight rushing, one receiving) and trails only teammate Johnny Mark, the Dinos’ kicker, in points scored this season.
The win in Edmonton clinched a home playoff date for the Dinos, and they have the chance to clinch first place for the second year in a row when they visit the Regina Rams. A Calgary win or a loss by less than 16 points will secure top spot and home field advantage through the Hardy Cup as the Dinos look for their fifth consecutive conference championship.
DEFENCE: #26 Bryan Rideout, UBC

Bryan Rideout has led a resurgence of the UBC Thunderbirds defence, which limited the Regina Rams to just 17 points in Saturday’s 24-17 victory for UBC.
The third-year student-athlete, who has been the one healthy defensive back this season for UBC, starting all six games, was outstanding Saturday afternoon leading the Thunderbirds with 7 solo tackles and 7.5 tackles in total from his cornerback position. However, his biggest play of the game was a crucial 26-yard interception return to the UBC 28-yard line in the first half, leading to UBC’s first touchdown of the day. He also had another pass break up in the end zone in the second half.
Rideout, who is an Applied Science student, leads UBC this season with 32.5 tackles. He also has two interceptions, which he has returned for a combined 47 yards.
Rideout and the Thunderbirds hope to keep their playoff hopes alive next weekend when they head to Winnipeg to take on the Manitoba Bisons Saturday afternoon.
SPECIAL TEAMS: #33 Johnny Mark, Calgary

Johnny Mark had another perfect night placekicking and a great punting performance in the Dinos’ 51-1 win over Alberta Friday night.
Mark connected on all three of his field goal opportunities from 14, 30, and 34 yards to give him 19 on the season, setting a new Dinos single-season record for field goals with two games still to play. He’s just four back of the Canada West record of 23 in a single season and is in shouting distance of the conference record of 114 points in a season with 93 after six games.
Punting, Mark booted the ball seven times for a 40.7-yard average.
On the season, the second-year science student is 19-for-22 in field goals for an 86.4 per cent accuracy while going a perfect 32-for-32 on point-after touchdown attempts. He will get a chance to improve on those numbers Friday night as the Dinos look to clinch top spot in Canada West when they visit the Regina Rams at Mosaic Stadium.
