OUA FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: All with Ottawa connection

09/07/2010 1:27 PM – HAMILTON, Ont. ā€“ The following athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 6, 2010.

OFFENCE: Matthew Bolduc, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Receiver

Matthew Bolduc of Ottawa leads the No. 3 Gee-Gees with a league-high 275 yards through the first two games of the 2010 season. His 11 receptions for 183 yards in the game against the Western Mustangs were the difference maker in the 20-19 come-from-behind win for the Gee-Gees. Bolduc, a Social Sciences major, also connected with QB Bradley Sinopoli of Peterborough, Ont. for two touchdowns in the first game of the season against Windsor. Bolduc currently leads the CIS in yards per game with 137.5.

DEFENCE: Sam Sabourin, Queenā€™s Gaels, Linebacker

Sam Sabourin of Stittsville (Ottawa suburb), Ont., set a Queenā€™s school record in his first CIS game against the McMaster Marauders. The first year physical education major recorded 13 solo tackles establishing a new single game record and breaking the previous mark of 10, held by current Special Teams coach Ryan Bechmanis and Dave Burleigh. The rookie linebacker also added two tackles for a loss, a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Tyler Crapigna, McMaster Marauders, Kicker
Tyler Crapigna of Ottawa had quite the start to his OUA career. In his first game against Queen’s the rookie kicker was three of four on field goal attempts including one from 47 yards and a field goal with under a minute remaining in the game. Crapigna also had a field goal against Laurier and has yet to miss a convert in six attempts this season.
