OUA Players of the Week 4: Heap, Sawyer, Falvo


The following athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 25, 2011.

OFFENCE: Dillon Heap, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Receiver

Receiver Dillon Heap (Waterloo, Ont.) had his second consecutive 100-plus yards receiving game of the season in the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 34-28 defeat to the No. 2 Western Mustangs. Heap pulled in seven catches for 176 yards, including a 52 yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, his third receiving touchdown of the season. His performance moved him into fifth place in the CIS in receiving yards this season, with 406 yards.

DEFENCE: Tyler Sawyer, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Line backer

Fourth year line backer Tyler Sawyer (Metcalfe, Ont.), helped the Gee-Gees accomplish a rare feat in football: a shutout. In the 41-0 Homecoming rout against Toronto on Saturday at Frank Clair Stadium, Sawyer had 7.5 tackles (5 solo, 5 assisted), one forced fumble, and an interception that he returned for 32 yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Matthew Falvo, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Kicker

Fourth-year kicker Matthew Falvo, (Welland, Ont.), went long this weekend with two field goals, from 40 and 43-yards. Falvo also punted for 414 yards (his longest at 40 yards), and tallied 407 kick off yards in the heavily one-sided match up. He sits third in CIS for field goals made with nine on 13 attempts.
