OUA players of the week: Quarterfinals – Quinlan, Cormack, Rapanaro

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 30, 2010.

OFFENCE: Kyle Quinlan, McMaster Marauders, Quarterback
Quinlan (South Woodslee, Ont.) led the McMaster Marauders to a 40-19 defeat of the Queen’s Gaels in the OUA quarterfinals last week. Quinlan completed 69% of his passes finishing 18 of 26 for 361 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. His 361 yards in air accounted for 75% of McMaster’s 483 yards of net offence in the game. He also ran the ball eight times for 42 yards including a touchdown. He was directly involved in scoring 30 of McMaster’s 40 points in the contest. His day didn’t end there as to combat the gusting winds he was asked to punt deep in the McMaster zone, his first punt attempts of the season. His two punts combined for 120 yards, one of them being for 79 yards.

DEFENCE:
Stephen Cormack, Laurier Golden Hawks, Lineman
The veteran defensive lineman from Waterloo, Ont. had the game of his life as he picked off Guelph and returned the ball 57-yards for the second touchdown of the game. Cormack, a fourth-year history major, also added 2.5 tackles in the game and consistently put pressure on the Gryphon offence. The 42-10 quarter-final victory advances the team to the semifinals in Ottawa.


SPECIAL TEAMS:
Giancarlo Rapanaro, Laurier Golden Hawks, Linebacker
Rapanaro, a fifth-year linebacker, took over special team kicking duties for the Hawks on the weekend. The Niagara Falls, Ont. native was three for three in field goals including two 40-yarders. Rapanaro completed all four attempts for extra points and also punted 10 times for 349 yards including a 52-yard boot. For his performance in the Golden Hawks 42-10 quarter-final win, Rapanaro was named Porter Player of the Game.
