OUA Players of week 2: two mustangs and a gael

HAMILTON, Ont. – The following athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 12, 2010.

OFFENCE: Donnie Marshall, Western Mustangs, Quarterback
With five rushes for 59 yards, junior quarterback Donnie Marshall (London, Ont.) scored three touchdowns on the ground, and set a school record for quarterback rushing touchdowns. He added a career best 15 complete passes, going 15-for-29, adding another career high of 125 passing yards.

Marshall was especially impressive in the third quarter, engineering a 15-play, 88-yard drive that lasted almost seven minutes and ended in a 10-yard Marshall touchdown run.

The first-year starter at quarterback also guided his team to a perfect six-for-six showing in the red-zone with all scores ending in touchdowns. Marshall was also named The Score’s player of the game in a 50-19 win over No. 6 McMaster in front of almost 10,000 fans at TD Waterhouse Stadium.

DEFENCE: Craig Butler, Western Mustangs, Halfback
Defensive halfback Craig Butler (London, Ont,) snagged an interception and led his team with 10 total tackles in a 50-19 win over No. 6 McMaster on Saturday, September 11.

The 2008 Mitchell Bowl MVP also returned five punts for 19 yards and had a four-yard return on his interception. Butler now leads the team with 28.5 tackles in three games, including 24 of the solo variety, along with a team-best two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also has 2.5 tackles for losses and a half-sack along with four break-ups.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Dan Village, Queen’s Gaels, Kicker/Punter
Dan Village (Abbotsford, B.C.), got his named into the CIS record books with his performance on the weekend. The Queen’s kicker/punter scored the game winning point for the Gaels after punting an 86 yard rouge in the second quarter in Sunday’s game against the Windsor Lancers. The punt ranks as the 15[SUP]th[/SUP] longest in CIS history and the longest in Queen’s history. He also added an additional 12 points in the game after finishing a perfect three for three in field goals and four for four in converts.
