OUA players of week 8: Rossetti, Cappiello, Hajrullahu

HAMILTON, Ont. ā€“ The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 17, 2010.

OFFENCE: Chris Rossetti, Guelph Gryphons, Quarterback

Third-year quarterback Chris Rossetti from Mississauga, Ont. was a marksman for the Gryphon football team on Saturday in their 41-14 win over the Windsor Lancers at Alumni Stadium. He threw a career-high 338 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Gryphons to their fourth win of the season. Rossetti had a monster performance, going 20-for-28, with zero interceptions. He also picked up 63 yards on the ground on nine attempts to round out his best performance of the season.

DEFENCE:
Joe Cappiello, Toronto Varsity Blues, Defensive Lineman

Fifth-year Varsity Blues defensive lineman Joe Cappiello totaled four tackles, a league-high three sacks and two forced fumbles against the nation’s top offence, the McMaster Marauders, this past Saturday at Varsity Centre. In the Marauders first series of the second quarter, Cappiello sacked Kyle Quinlan and forced a fumble, which set up Kevin Asareā€™s 75-yard score for the Blues second major of the day. The Toronto native also got to the McMaster quarterback in the first and fourth quarters.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Lirim Hajrullahu, Western Mustangs, Kicker/Punter

The second-year kinesiology major led Western’s offence with 18 points on three field goals and eight extra points, along with a rouge off a kickoff as the Mustangs blanked York 76-0. He booted 10 kickoffs for 595 yards and had three of his eight punts inside the 20-yard line. The St. Catharines native was perfect on three field goal attempts from 26, 19 and 13 yards out. Hajrullahu leads the CIS in scoring with 88 points (19 field goals, 3 rouges, 28 extra points).
