OVFL JV/Peewee: Who will win Conference finals?

Here we go again. CFC coaches poll attempts (as always, we are terrible) to predict this weekends winners. Read what our coaches think.

We polled a total of 6 coaches this week for Varsity, 4 for JV and 4 for peewee.

Last weeks coaches poll record: (overall record 16 and 8)

VARSITY 2 AND 2 (overall playoffs 5 and 3)
JUNIOR VARSITY 3 AND 1 (overall playoffs 6 and 2)
PEEWEE 3 AND 1 (overall playoffs 5 and 3)
PEEWEE

14 August 10:30 AM Cambridge Lions (7-2) @ Niagara Spears (9-1)

These two teams did not play one another in the regular season. The lions are led by Drew Walden and Zachery Sauer on defense and big play running back Carlton Smith on offense (1193 yards, 14 TDs). The spears are led by Eli Sacco, Sam Lidgett, and Patrick Ricci on defense and running back Corey Verkuyl on offense. Expect a great game, some big plays and a back and forth affair. Flip your coin for the winner.

NIAGARA 25 CAMBRIDGE 21

14 August 12:30 PM Toronto Thunder (9-2) @ Ottawa Myers Riders (9-0)

These 2 teams played in week two in a rain soaked affair at birchmount stadium in Toronto with they riders coming on out on top by 20 to 7. The thunder were ineffective passing the ball that day but have since changed QBs which will make a big difference. Myers is led by defenders Ethan Goulet and Justin Butler and the thunder counter with defenders Jake Smith, Winston Higgins and Jonathan Graham-Kelly. The better defense wins the day.

OTTAWA 24 THUNDER 18

JUNIOR VARSITY (at Rogers center)

15 August 10:00 AM Toronto Thunder (7-3) @ Brampton Bulldogs (8-2)

These two teams did not face one another in regular season play. The bulldogs only loses came on forfeits in week one and two. The bulldogs enter the game with a high flying offense and an opportunistic defense while the thunder counter with a more balanced attack. The thunders challenge will be to stop the big play ability of Kalvin Johnson (PICTURE), Craig Asiamah-Yeboah, and Michael Nelson. The thunder must have big games from defenders deshane lewis, tevaughn campbell and joseph willard.

BRAMPTON 32 THUNDER 29

15 August 1:00 PM Niagara Spears (7-2) @ Cambridge Lions (8-1)

All eyes will be on lions running back tyler varga and for good reason. Tyler has had a whirlwind summer, competing at the Football Canada Cup, at a variety of camps in the U.S., and of course for the lions in JV OVFL action. Can the spears stop varga? In week 3 the spears lost to the lions by a score of 31 to 25 in cambridge. In that game spears QB Jordon Maxim-Davey passed for 362 yards, 1 TD, and 2 interceptions. If jordon can get rid of the turnovers the spears have a legitimate chance. In that game Varga did everything. 3 TDs…one a rushing TD, one a punt return touchdown, and one a kick off return touchdown. Can someone say kick away from varga. Our coaches smell an upset, well some of them.
