OVFL: Lions roar past Bears in JV & Varsity action


Austin Gordon passed for 153 yards and rushed for 27 more as he led the OVFL Jr. Varsity Cambridge Lions to a 27-15 win over the Guelph Bears last weekend. Gordon connected with Simon Beeksma for a major, and ran the ball across the line for another score.

Carlton Smith also rushed for a TD, and Keiran Burnham hit a 12 yard field goal to complete the Bears scoring.

Dequan French-Gray led the Lions defense with seven tackles, a sack and an interception. Zachary Sauer and Drew Walden also had a big game on the defense.

The JR Varsity Lions defend their 2-0 record at home against the Mississauga Warriors Friday night at 8:00 at Jacob Hespeler School.

The Cambridge Lions Varsity team of the OVFL evened their record at 1-1 with a 28-0 win over The Guelph Bears Saturday at Jacob Hespeler.

Chris Ackie carried carried the ball 8 times, averaging three yards a carry, but he made those yards count as he tallied for two touchdowns to lead the Lions past the Bears. Tamaul Lewis-Gostlin also ran in a Lions touchdown.

The Lions completed the scoring with a Jason Chris pass to Eric Cusimano.

On the defense, Dylan Gordon and James Smyth both had three tackles, and Zac Hoare and Lucas Beeby both had a sac each.

The Lions next play at home, Jacob Hespeler Field, Saturday night at 8:00.
