OVFL: Lions win 2 out of 3 over Bulldogs


The Peewee Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League improved their record to 2-1 with a 15-0 victory over the Brampton Bulldogs Saturday.

Brayden Hill led the Lions with 181 yards passing, including 2 touchdowns. Hill hit Kaden Jesperson for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. George Monaghan caught a 38 yard pass for the other touchdown.

On defense, Mitchell Weiler had an interception and 30 yard return, and Nathan Christopher had an interception.

The Lions next game is in Ottawa Saturday.

The jr. Varsity Cambridge Lions of the OVFL went into Brampton Saturday and defeated the Bulldogs in their own house, 37-28.

The Lions were led by the rushing game, with Simon Beeksma and Adam Mueller carrying the football for touchdowns.

Carlton Smith (picture) added a 53 yard punt return for a score, and Austin Gordon connected with Beeksma for another.

Keiran Burnham added two field goals, one from the ten and one from the seven yard line.

On the defence, Scott Wiseman led the way with 10 tackles and Greg Vanderkooy had an interception.

The Lions are in Ottawa this weekend to take on the Cumberland Panthers Saturday.

The Varsity Cambridge Lions suffered their second loss of the season to the Brampton Bulldogs, 30-17 Saturday.

Jason Chris led the Cambridge offense with two touchdown passes, one to Glorian Ganza and one to Eric Cusimano.

Eric Hewitson added a 33 yard field goal to complete Cambridge’s scoring.

The Lions take their 2-2 record to Sault Ste. Marie to face the Sabrecats on Saturday.
