OVFL: Myers riders send 2 out of 3 teams to finals at Rogers Center

The Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) will have a big Ottawa contention in their finals next Saturday. The Ottawa Myers Riders bantam (Under 15) and junior varsity (under 17) teams will represent the nation’s capital in the finals. The Bantam squad will face the Cambridge Lions and the junior varsity team will play the Mississauga Warriors. The Toronto Thunder varsity (under 20) squad defeated the Myers Riders and will face the winner of today’s Hamilton Mississauga match up.

The bantam riders team narrowly defeated the Metro Wildcats 29 to 26 at Minto field. Harrison Tallyhoe, Steven Hanzidiakou, Edward Ekiyor and Daniel Barker had touchdowns while Ekiyor had a two-point conversion and Barker recorded three single point conversions.

The junior varsity team continued to get great play from quarterback Michael Arruda. He threw touchdown passes of 34 and 40 yards to Jaegar Prot. Runningback Alex Brazeau had 121 yards rushing and one TD on 20 carries. The Riders defeated the Toronto Thunder 35 to 16.

In the varsity game it was the “jayde rowe” show. The Toronto Thunder running back was the catalyst that led his team to an early 21 to 0 lead, eventually prevailing 36 to 21.
