The game to determine first place in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Western division (Adam Conference) lived up to all the pre-game hype. The Essex Ravens completed a perfect 8 and 0 season with a ‘come from behind’ victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Sabercats.
With 27 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter Essex running back Nick Vincent scored the winning touchdown. The final score would be 24 to 20. Essex continues to find a way to win the close games.
The first place standings give the Ravens a first round bye and home field throughout the conference portion of the playoffs. The Sabercats will play host to a first-round playoff game by virtue of holding the No. 1 wild card seed.
Sabercat head coach Steve Nott told the Sault Star “We’re obviously disappointed…but we played well.”
Raven head coach Glen Mills told the Windsor Star “We turned the ball over too many times…we played well defensively but need to improve offensively.”
