OVFL Varsity Conference finals: Who will win?

Here we go again. CFC coaches poll attempts (as always, we are terrible) to predict this weekends winners. Read what our coaches think.

We polled a total of 6 coaches this week for Varsity, 4 for JV and 4 for peewee.

Last weeks coaches poll record: (overall record 16 and 8)

VARSITY 2 AND 2 (overall playoffs 5 and 3)
JUNIOR VARSITY 3 AND 1 (overall playoffs 6 and 2)
PEEWEE 3 AND 1 (overall playoffs 5 and 3)

VARSITY (at Rogers center)
NOTE: All these teams were wildcard entries, meaning no teams with a bye won the following week.

15 August 4:00 PM Etobicoke Eagles (8-2) @ Cumberland Panthers (9-1)

This one matches up the strong defensive unit of the panthers versus the high flying offense of the eagles. These two teams did not face one another in the regular season. Cumberland’s only loss of the year was to the Toronto Thunder, the team the eagles just beat. The eagles also lost to the thunder in the regular season and to the wildcats. The key for the panthers may be if ron omara plays. Ron also plays for the OFC junior Ottawa Sooners where he just was the OFC defensive player of the week. Ron led the Sooners’ defense in a come from behind 25-23 victory over the visiting St Leonard Cougars. He had 15 total defensive points including 5 on special teams. Ron was credited with 4 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and a fumble recovery. Can Ron and the panthers keep the eagles Jesse Herman, Melvin Abankwah, Kevin Bradfield, & Aaron Jermiah in check? Look for this one to be a great one, especially if omara is in the line up.

EAGLES 26 PANTHERS 21

15 August 7:00 PM Hamilton Ironmen (5-5-1) @ Essex Ravens (7-3)

Like the other varsity match up this pits defense versus offense and a first time match up. The high flying ravens with QB Austin Kennedy and RB Terrance Crawford face the defensive unit of the ironmen led by Lucas Durdin, Nikola Alves, Kyle Plummer, Jess Tonn, and Matt Lauren. In the ravens 3 losses the opponents scored 32, 34, and 29 points. Our coaches do not think that will be the case sunday for the hamilton offense…unless the ironmen defense pitches in. Look for the ironmen to slow down the ravens, but not stop them.

ESSEX 24 HAMILTON 19
