Parker, Coehoorn, Walter identified by CFL scouts (CFL top 15 prospects list)

TORONTOThree members of the University of Calgary Dinos are among the Top 15 prospects for the 2011 Canadian Football League draft, the CFL Scouting Bureau announced Thursday.

Receiver Anthony Parker tops the list in third spot, with receiver Nathan Coehoorn in seventh and running back Matt Walter (picture) listed 14[SUP]th[/SUP].

All three were members of the Dinos’ Canada West and Uteck Bowl championship team last year, and all three were named All-Canadians. Coehoorn and Walter landed on the first All-Canadian team in 2009, while Parker was named to the second team.

Parker is the highest-rated of nine CIS players on the list, and the Dinos make up fully one-third of the CIS content in the Top 15.

The Dinos (1-1) are currently ranked No. 4 in the latest FRC-CIS Top 10 poll. They head north to take on the 2-0, first place Alberta Golden Bears Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (AM 770 CHQR).

The projected number one prospect is Philip Blake, a 6’3”, 315 pound centre from Toronto who plays at Baylor University, where he has also played offensive tackle.

Blake is one of three offensive linemen among the top five prospects, including University of Connecticut centre Moe Petrus, from St. Laurent, Quebec, and Rice University tackle Scott Mitchell, who hails from Ottawa.

“There is a lot of excitement among our teams about the prospects available to them to in 2011,” said Kevin McDonald, Director of Football Operations and Development for the Canadian Football League. “Of course, these are just projections. Our scouts will be watching how players progress this season, and how they fare at our Evaluation Camp. What is certain is that a new crop of talented young players is bound for our league.”
