Passion fit

Sudbury standout commits to OUA team.

Jonathan Landry will be joining the Waterloo Warriors next season.

The 6’1, 190 pound slotback/defensive back/punter from Sudbury, Ontario decided to join the team for the 2014 OUA season because it had the right combination of three things.

“Waterloo’s reputation as a very well-known university and their football program has encouraged me to put in the effort needed in order to play at the next level,” explained Landry of his decision.  “Waterloo’s recreation and sports business program was a big seller for me because it fit my passion in sports, recreation with a combination of business.”

“Sudbury and Waterloo are similar in size and they both have a small town feel so living in a community like that would make it feel like home.”

Additionally, Landry was influenced by Warriors wide receiver Paul Cecile.

“Waterloo football veteran Paul Cecile played a huge part in my life as a young football player,” added Landry.  “Before going to high school, I was more into playing hockey being a young man from Sudbury but Paul, and my older brother convinced me to give football a try.”

“Ever since then I’ve grown a passion for the sport.  Playing football at the next level is not something everybody gets to experience so I am very grateful to have the opportunity to play for the Warriors and it really does feel like a dream come true.”

Landry joins the Warriors after completing his high school career with the Notre Dame Alouettes of the Sudbury District Secondary School Athletic Association (SDSSAA).  This past season, he scored seven touchdowns (including three off kickoff returns).  For his efforts on the field, Landry nabbed four SDSSAA All-Star selections – at slot-back, defensive back as well as two special teams nods (kick and punt return).

Moreover, he suited up for the Sudbury Gladiators of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).
